Essex Employment and Skills Board was established with the aim of giving employers a platform to develop skills provision across Essex. By working with diverse employers, academic establishments and the local government, the ESB develops solutions to the skill challenges that businesses face, in addition to giving individuals assistance in building long-term careers.
ESB Essex asked us to develop ‘DELIVR IT’, an immersive VR experience that served as a recruitment tool for the logistics sector. This experience is aimed for students and job seekers to consider a career in one of the fastest growing sectors in Essex, allowing them to experience different occupations in the logistics field and apprehend the skills needed for them.
We developed a unique experience available on both the Oculus Rift and Oculus Go, where the user is put in control of delivering a package. Beginning in a factory in Asia, the user follows the supply chain directly to the buyer, experiencing and understanding the operation of transporting goods, the equipment used and who is involved.
The site was built from a 2D plan, which we created into a colourful 3D, 360° environment with dynamic lighting, informational hotspots, animations and navigation options. Users can additionally move around the site, selecting points of interests using hand gestures, which gives rise to more interactions with objects on the site.
The experience was debuted at Digital Arts Festival 2018 at the University of Essex, an event where young students are able to discover different studying career options and examine how technology is driving creative industries forward.
